ARTERIA Networks Corporation (Headquarter: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director, President: Tatsuya Abe, hereinafter referred to as ARTERIA) announced the signing of a contract with NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) to build the Asia United Gateway East (AUG East) submarine cable system connecting Japan and Singapore, with South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia. Targeted for completion by the third quarter of 2029, the 8,900 km high-capacity cable system will support the demand for more bandwidth across this route, enhancing digital connectivity in the region.

The consortium, chaired by Singtel, includes ARTERIA Networks, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Chunghwa Telecom, DREAMLINE, Globe Telecom, Telekom Malaysia and Unified National Networks.

Designed using the latest submarine fiber optic technologies, AUG East will feature a high-count fiber pair system delivering exceptionally high bandwidth capacity, enabling support for millions of simultaneous ultra-high-definition video streams. In recent years, the proliferation of AI applications and AI-enhanced applications has continued to drive increases in application traffic, and organizations in the Asia-Pacific region are also becoming increasingly active in investing in digital and generative AI technologies.

AUG East will complement existing submarine cable systems in the region by providing additional bandwidth to meet the growing demand from consumers and businesses for reliable and low-latency data access, while also enhancing network diversity and cable resilience in the event of natural disasters such as earthquakes.
